Classes are scheduled for Friday and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM and will be held at San Francisco State University’s Downtown Campus: Westfield San Francisco Centre, 835 Market Street, San Francisco, California.

 

 
 

Instructional Design

 
 
 

The course provides an interactive, experiential learning environment supplementing lectures and whole group discussions with small group exercises, case studies, simulations and role-plays. Participants are encouraged to explore issues related to their own firms and to learn from other participants in a safe classroom environment.

Tuition is $2,950 including classroom materials, payable in advance. Payment is due by April 12, 2010. Refunds will be allowed, given written notice by April 21, 2010, less a 10% handling fee. Participants will be required to purchase their own books and online articles as assigned by the instructor.

Kyle V. Davy, AIA

Kyle established his consulting practice in 1992 to help architecture and engineering firms develop the leadership and management capacities they need to thrive in an increasingly turbulent business environment. He has designed and delivered numerous project management and leadership courses that have trained over 2000 built environment professionals.
He is a principal faculty member of the ACEC Senior Executive Institute (SEI) and holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Kyle lectures widely and has published numerous articles on project management and other aspects of the A/E industry. His book, Value Redesigned: New Models for Professional Practice (2005), co-authored with Susan L. Harris PhD, charts a breakthrough course for developing new sustainable models of professional practice for architects, engineers, and other design professionals. He recently authored a chapter, “The Design Process — Architectural Thinking” for Architecture: Celebrating the Past, Designing the Future, a book published in 2009 commemorating the 150th anniversary of the American Institute of Architects.

Task Management for Design Firm Professionals

A two-day course focused on the development of critical management skills for task managers in architecture, engineering, and design firms. This learning experience focuses on a basic set tools, concepts, and skills that are central to successful task management including, understanding project roles and responsibilities, scope management, planning, budgeting, scheduling at the task level. The curriculum also includes a set of “soft” skills required by task managers to individuals assigned to them including motivation, assigning work for accountability, and basic team skills.
